Kerry is an Australian self-published writer, writing mainly fiction but with at least one foray into partial autobiography (it being an account of pets owned by members of the family, not just those owned by her).
Daughter of an Australian career diplomat, Kerry grew up in Australia and postings in New Zealand, Africa, Europe and Asia. It was a mobile childhood that probably stimulated the imagination, and certainly ended up with an eclectic education – being a mixture of United Kingdom, United States and Australian curricula depending on where she was at the time.
When she left school she graduated from the then Canberra College of Advanced Education, with a Bachelor of Applied Science (Biology), a degree which focused mainly upon ecological conservation. Her vague desire for work in the field came to nothing, and, still in Canberra, she entered the Australian Public Service as a base-grade clerk in 1980. A gradual rise through the ranks of the service followed.
She spent over twenty years in the service, largely dealing with Commonwealth commercial fisheries or marine wildlife matters. This was followed by a brief foray as a natural resource consultant, an equally brief return to public service, and a slightly longer time as a fitness personal trainer, before retiring from paid employment.
That sparked a move first to the wine country of South Australia and then to the Snowy Mountains of New South Wales, but for various reasons neither move was successful. Now she lives again in Canberra, co-habiting with three cats and a collection of (largely unfinished) projects, varying from further writings to drawings, photography, woodworks and her garden. It has been a lifetime of writing, sketching and generally trying to create things. Success in certain endeavours can only be described as mixed, but the pursuit usually has involved a lot of enjoyment.
Somewhere along the way, the urge to see her stories in print overtook her.
